Long before Jesus Christ was born, the Scriptures declared the beauties of His gospel. From the very first verses in the book of Genesis to the very last words of Malachi, the Old Testament declares the gospel of grace and points toward our redemption in Christ Jesus. This is not the mere opinion of scholars and theologians; it is the declaration of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus taught His disciples that "all the Scriptures" spoke about Him (Luke 24:27). This is an important point to grasp! During the life of Jesus, no portion of the New Testament had yet been written, so the Christ-centered Scriptures referenced by Jesus were all contained in the Old Testament. Jesus expected His followers to recognize the gospel in the Old Testament.
In the modern church, too many believers are guilty of ignoring the Old Testament. The church often treats the two Testaments as though they are telling two vastly different stories. Even pastors dismiss the role of the Old Testament in the lives of believers--teaching that the New Testament has replaced or nullified the Old Testament. The Bible does not permit us to make that mistake. We must recognize that these are the Scriptures that testify about Christ (John 5:39).
Christ from Creation is designed to help students grow in their relationship with Christ and in their appreciation for His Word through an in-depth study of the major stories from the Old Testament. Students will be taught to see the Bible through covenantal lenses, which integrate the entirety of Scripture around the Lord Jesus Christ. Focusing on the most famous stories of the Old Testament, this book will show how God sovereignly orchestrated all of redemptive history to proclaim the good news that was to come in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
